Packsaddle Lake is a nice hike with a nice swimming lake and rope swing to end your hike.įree Music in Victor every Thursday night (2018 lineup yet to be released) The Big Hole Mountains on the West Side of the valley also offers some fun alternative hikes, although not as epic and wide open as you'll find on the Grand Teton Side.
There is also N and S Leigh Canyons that you can drive down a great way and then hike. Table Mountain (accessed by Teton Canyon)Īlaska Basin (accessed by Teton Canyon and best for an overnight) There are some pretty epic hikes on the backside of the Tetons, and all start with a long drive down a canyon to get there. The great thing about the Leigh Lake trail is that (if you are short on time) you can make it as brief a hike as you like and still experience breathtaking sights and scenery. There are a number of spots along the trail where you can get closer to the lake and take photos or just admire the beauty. On our visit, the trail itself was in good shape despite it having rained the day before. The path from the parking lot to the trailhead is paved and well-marked. Drive another 1.4 mi/2.25 km until you see the sign and parking lot for the String Lake and Leigh Lake trailhead. To reach the trailhead, turn west off Teton Park Road at the North Jenny Lake Junction, which is roughly 10.5 mi/16.9 km north of Moose Junction and about 10 mi/16.1 km south of the Jackson Lake Junction. My wife and I hiked this trail in mid-September 2022. NOTE: It is a very popular hike, so don’t expect to be alone during your time here. Located in the heart of Grand Teton National Park, the Leigh Lake Trail is a short, relatively easy hike that features outstanding views of both Leigh Lake and the Grand Tetons.
